Alexandrova was bred in Ireland by Quay Bloodstock and was purchased at the October 2004 Tattersalls yearling sale. Owned by John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derek Smith, and trained by Aidan O'Brien, in 2006 Alexandrova became the first horse in seven years to win the Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks and the Yorkshire Oaks. Ridden by jockey Michael Kinane, in the 1½ mile Yorkshire Oaks, for the first time she raced against older fillies and mares and won by 3½ lengths.
