Anya is the fiery, feisty redheaded heroine of the 20th Century Fox film Anastasia. The character is loosely based on Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Anya is a beautiful but stubborn, bold and headstrong young woman with a mind of her own. She was a very playful child, which carried over into her adulthood, as can be seen in her relationship with Dimitri early in the film. Anya has also proved to be a quick thinker who is good at improvising many times. However, there are also times where she can also be easily frustrated and insecure, and these insecurities are most apparent later on in the movie as Dimitri and Vladimir start grooming her to become a Grand Duchess. As someone who did not even know her last name for a large period of her life, home and family are extremely important values to Anya, as she can not remember having either, yet is certain she must have had both, and at the end of the film she even decides that she doesn't want to become a Grand Duchess again because she found the home and family that she had been longing for in both her grandmother and in Dimitri.
