Argentines in the United Kingdom en
Argentines in the United Kingdom are citizens or residents of the United Kingdom whose ancestry originates in the southeast South American nation of Argentina. Alongside Chileans, Uruguayans and Bolivians, Argentines were the first groups of Latin Americans to come to the UK, the majority settled in London after fleeing their home countries. People fleeing political persecution in Argentina came in large numbers in the 1970s. According to the 2001 UK Census, 6,796 Argentine-born people were living in the UK, representing just over 10 per cent of the UK's Latin American born community. Argentina is the third most populated nation in South America, and they form the fourth largest South American immigrant group to the UK. In global rankings according to the OECD, the UK hosts the world's sixth largest Argentine diaspora behind the United States, Spain, Italy, Australia and Canada. [ - ]
