  • The Barbu de Watermael, Barbu de Watermaal, or Bearded Watermael, is a breed of bantam chicken originating in the Belgian town of Watermael-Boitsfort. Translated from the French, its name means "bearded [chicken] from Watermael". It is very closely related to the several other Belgian true bantams, and resembles a Bearded d'Anvers with a crest of feathers. The Bearded Grubbe is a rumpless variation, in that it lacks the Parson's Nose. The breed is quite small, even for a bantam, with males weighing around 22 ounces and hens weighing 18 ounces. It is almost exclusively an ornamental fowl, and appears in more than 30 color variations, including Mille Fleur, Quail, White, Blue and Cuckoo.
