  • The BP Portrait Award 2008 is the most prestigious portrait competition in the world, promoting the very best in contemporary portrait painting. Of this year's 1,727 entrants, London based artist Craig Wylie was announced as the winner of the BP Portrait Award 2008 with his portrait K (oil on canvas, 2100 x 1650 mm), an epic study of his girlfriend Katherine.The annual competition and exhibition encourages artists to develop their portraiture, and recognises and celebrates outstanding and innovative work currently being produced. Also on display will be work by the two BP Travel Award 2007 winners, Timothy Hyman and Gareth Reid. The award offers artists the opportunity to experience working in a different environment in Britain or abroad.In addition to the main prize is the BP Young Artist Award 2008 which was won by Chinese born artist Peijuan Jiang.
