Dublin University Fencing Club en
Dublin University Fencing Club (DU Fencing Club) is the official fencing club of Trinity College, Dublin. They are the current Intervarsity Champions of Ireland, and have won the title a total of thirty-two times in fifty-five years of competition, making them the most successful university-level fencing club in Ireland. DU Fencing Club is a valued membership club of the Irish Fencing Federation, being chosen to host many of the training days of the national squad. Although DU Fencing Club was formed in 1941, its origins predate its official conception by several centuries. During the 18th century, a 'Gentleman's Club of the Sword' existed in order to train Trinity College students for potential duels. By 1774, Provost Hely-Hutchinson was extensively promoting fencing as a noble accomplishment. This is the point at which the club draws its true creation. While there are many notable members of DU Fencing Club's alumni, including several National Champions and Olympians, the current set-up is possibly the most experienced that the club has seen in recent years.
