Founded in 1841 as the University Medical College, the NYU School of Medicine is one of the foremost medical schools in the United States, ranking 19th in research according to U.S. News & World Report. The School of Medicine is part of NYU Langone Medical Center, named after Kenneth Langone, the investment banker and financial backer of the Home Depot. The Medical Center comprises the NYU School of Medicine and three hospitals: Tisch Hospital, the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Hospital for Joint Diseases. The institution is known for evidence-based clinical care across a wide range of specialties including its five key clinical areas: cardiac and vascular, cancer, musculoskeletal, neurology and neurosurgery, and children’s services.
