The Netherlands has 9 main holidays. The first one is New Years Eve or Nieuwjaar ¬タワ. Their New Years Eve is just the same as ours except theirs is at a much different time. Their second holiday is Easter or Pasen which is in March and April. This is where they celebrate the Resurrection for two days. The third one is Queens Day or Koninginnedag which is usually on April 30. This is where they celebrate the Dutch Monarchy or Queen. This is celebrated on April 30 because that is the birth date of former Queen Juliana who lived from 1909-2004. Much of the time this holiday was celebrated on the Queens birthday but when Queen Beatrix succeeded Juliana in 1980 she kept the holiday on the same date since her own birthday, which is on January 31, first did not let outdoor activities occur because of the weather. On this day people would wear orange in honor of the House of Orange and go to the Soestdijk Palace to be welcomed by Juliana and to give her gifts. The fourth holiday is The Remembrance of the Dead or Dodenherdenking on May 4th. This remembers all those who died in World War II by two minutes of silence at 8 P.M.
