Växjö University (Swedish: Växjö universitet) is a public university in Växjö, Sweden. In 2007 it had 14,000 students. Växjö University is scheduled to merge with Kalmar College under the new name Linnaeus University on 1 January 2010. The university's was formerly a department Lund University that was founded in 1967 in Växjö. In 1977 this department became an independent college. The college was then granted university status by the Government of Sweden in 1999. The University has two faculties, the faculty of technology and the faculty of social science. The faculties are divided into seven schools: Research is conducted within the faculties of social sciences, humanities and technology. The university prides itself on the research in mathematical modelling, labour market policy, entrepreneurship, sociology, history, and migration. Aiding the search for renewable energy important research is being done in forest, wood, and bio energy technology. The campus is located just outside of Växjö city center.
