  • From the homepage, users can now help clean up Freebase data by reviewing flagged topics. Flagged topics have been marked by other users as candidates for merge or delete. If a flagged topic gets sufficient votes for merge or delete, the operation will be carried out by a script that runs each night.Delete Candidates - for these items, you'll have the following options:Delete - select this option if the topic looks like its been orphaned (lacks much, if any, data), duplicates an existing topic without providing any additional data, or doesn't really merit being a topic itself. Keep - select this option if the topic looks like it shouldn't be deleted Skip - if you have no idea what to do with an item, just click 'skip' and it won't appear in your queue again. Merge Candidates - for these items, typically you'll see three options:Merge - select this option if the two topics appear to be the same. The operation will take the properties of the less populated topic and apply them to the other topic. It will then delete the less populated topic. Don't merge - pick this option if the two topics appear to be different. A common case is where one of the topics has no additional information to add to the other topic. In this case the less populated topic should be flagged for delete and the 'don't merge' option should get your vote. Skip - if you have no idea what to do with an item, just click 'skip' and it won't appear in your queue again.Sometimes you'll see additional options for merge candidates displayed as 'left wins' and 'right wins'. In these more complex cases, the system needs additional infomation about which topic is the better one to keep. If voters agree, the display name for the item you pick will be used and any non-unique assertions from the other item will be added to that item. Any unique property values will remain as they are on the first topic (e.g., date_of_birth for /people/person). The other item will subsequently be deleted. The display name of the deleted item will also be added as an 'also known as'. Generally its recommended that you vote for the item that has more property values filled in. If you're really not sure, feel free to click on 'skip'.Voting on merging musical topics can be complicated; you can read more about it.In future releases, there will be other capabilities added such as:view and add comments to votes - for the time being, you can simply comment on the topics themselvesfilter queue by types - you may want to see just delete candidates, just merge candidates, or filter by a domain other activites for review - other tasks that could be run through this tool include: topics needing more data, recently edited topics requiring review, split candidates, offensive content candidates
