This property is specific enough to strategy games that Strategy Game and Strategy Game Unit types are probably in order. If you create these in your own domain for now (on sandbox.freebase.com), then you could add Units as a property of the Strategy Game type. That property would have an expected type of Strategy Game Unit. From there, you could augment both types with any other properties you want, such as a property that specifies whether the game is turn-based or real-time. Hope this helps, and if you need help getting started, I can create the types for you in my domain.

Hi Hemang.

A recent data update seems to have caused the problem. We are working on resolving that as soon as possible. In the meanwhile if you are running this specific query for wikipedia articles only (i.e. not in a generic library or something of that sort), you can get the same content by using the /api/tran/blurb service with a very hign number for maxlength like so:

http://www.freebase.com/api/trans/blurb/%239202a8c04000641f8000000000acd66c?maxlength=3000

This will only work for wikipedia based topics. The reason being that we do not maintain the complete wikipedia article on our backend. However we do allow /api/trans/raw requests for wikipedia based topics, it simply returns the same content as the blurbs without truncating the content.

Ah I see. So in reality we would want to link them properly and remove the incorrect types that have been associated with either of the entries. Thanks for the clarification.

Sometimes a company in Freebase has two cities in the HQ address area when it really doesn't. If the second city is correct, and you delete the first address line, and then try to add information into the remaining line, the autofill fields won't work. You can type things in there, but the auto-suggest won't "open" and you can't link the field to an actual topic. You have to close out and then go back in.

In case that is confusing :) here's hopefully something that will help:

OK, I'll bite. :)

You can see things that are linked or related together today -- that's the whole point about structured database, that instead of having a single long article describing various related things, we create one topic per entity and link them via types and properties, create browsable hyperlinked pages, and allow sophisticated queries for more involved data manipulation. This works extremely well for our universe where things too often have similar names or labels, like songs or poems titled "Love", or the two dozen adaptations of Jane Austen's works across different media formats (what's with the obsession over Jane Austen?).

If all of the people in the world with the same name share one topic, there would be no way to enter any person's birth date, employment history, or any other data point. Instead of being a one-stop shortcut, it'd be a nightmare to try to figure out which data applies to which entity: obfuscation to the max.

That's why for exmaple, separate artworks (each of which has a different artist, art media, creation date, etc.) are modeled in Freebase as separate topics, and are yet linked together via artist, art media, and subject. I've cleaned up and created the five paintings on the subject of Leda and the Swan and entered all the data I could find on them. So I can see all of the artworks grouped by this subject, or I can also see this artwork among all works by the artist Cezanne, or if I look at the art medium marble, the Leda and the Swan sculpture made of marble shows up there as well. Any written works, no matter how many, can be created and linked via the Book Subject type on this page. If there were a film made on this subject (a Lifetime special?), we would apply the Film Subject type to this page and link the movie here as well.

Pretty neat, huh? I really think Freebase shines in this area: the flexibility and the organization of massive amounts of data which permits users to see what they want, filter data by desired critera, and even pull out the MQL query or run reports. Well, I'm a fan. :) As a reminder, since Freebase is still in Alpha, the UI and other features are still evolving. Among the driving forces behind the constant pace of change is one you have direct influence over: user feedback. OK, back to "real" work for me.

That makes sense to me. The only issue I see is for missions to space stations which are not currently modeled as celestial objects, but maybe they should be...

In regard to more specific destinations, I was thinking it would be cool to make a visualization of lunar and mars landings using whatever coordinates are standard. But maybe the coordinate systems are significantly different on each planet in which case maybe it makes sense to have a 'Lunar Landing' type and a 'Mars Landing' type, etc.

I'm not really an expert on that sort of thing. Mostly what we do here at Freebase is organize publicly available information like what you'd find on Wikipedia. Private information like birth/death certificates is outside the scope of our research.

I'd rather get it right from the beginning, and pick one type for topic imported from WP, and create new topics as needed. I mean, do this if you're adding types by hand. If someone (or a bot) has already added both (or all three!) types, flagging it for split seems sufficient.

I understand what you mean, carmenfenn1, however co-typing isn't the way to do it. Something can't beboth a written work and an artwork - it doesn't make logical sense.

I think there is a need to somehow combine related topics so you can see everything together. Hopefully as Freebase matures someone will come up with that kind of functionality.

I am not resposible for any modelling work, I only provide the "bread and butter" (id est, the ca. 700 articles until now) for the GRM domain. I look at this as a reader and I can tell you that readers have no patience (or knowledge) to find these things separately, in different places on the database.

I'd like to offer a tip about cotyping vs. creating new topics, in case it's not very clear. Topics that cover several things, even if along similar themes or with similar names, should be split into individual topics, instead of cotyped.

For example, I just undid some of your cotyping of "Leda and the Swan", the article about the Greek mythylogical icon, and detyped it as a Poem, Published Work, Written Work, and Artwork. Why? Because this topic is not for the artwork or written work, instead it's an Art Subject and a Book Subject, both of which types I've added. The artworks and books on this subject, along with any other creative works (say if there's a play or song about Leda and the Swan), should be created as separate topics, one each, and linked to this topic via subject. To demonstrate this I've added some data. Take a look at this topic again.

What about space missions that land on celestial objects such as comets or other planets? Clearly a landing location can't be a geolocation in this case. Perhaps another property (or property of a type that includes the space mission type) with an ECT of /astronomy/celestial_object would be appropriate. This of course begs the question of how to specify the specific location on the celestial object. For spherical objects (such as the moon), there must be an analogue of long/lat. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this issue.

Oh, goodness, no! It is silly to say that a short story stars Jesse Ventura and Mick Fleetwood, and equally silly to say that a film is in a collection of short stories. In general, we avoid this kind of conflation, and use the Adapted Work and Adaptation types to connect them. It’s also worth noting that this particular film is actually based on both the story and a French film, something that would not be true of the original story. The separation also allows users to have one a a favorite but not the other, and to allow comments to be clear on their actual subject.

I notice that some space missions are co-typed as locations because mw_coord_bot picked up their lat/long from infoboxes on wikipedia. This is obviously incorrect, but recording launch and landing locations could be useful and interesting. Could we put these as properties on space mission? I suspect the launch location should just be type /location/location (or else some kind of type that includes that, like "Space mission launchsite" in this domain), but landing location should probably be a geolocation since so many of them are at sea, in the middle of nowhere, etc.

Hey, I joined freebase not too long ago and have been using it to build an app that lets users mark which films they have watched or own on dvd or blu-ray. I've run into the issue of TV shows not being in the Film category, which leads to my question.

Is there a possibility of a data type that tracks home video releases? This would be a sub-type for both Film and TV shows. I realize that may be a lot of work, so it might be far down the road, but I thought I'd suggest it.

Overall freebase is a fantastic service. I really hope to see it take off in a big way.
