after Faye (from the first post in this discussion) corrected me, i understood it was just a matter of me writing my own text (since then, some1 has added a short explanation of how to create a new season).

i think there should be a mechanism, to automatically create (at the user's request) a type which is consisted from the name of the top level type (or some other fixed text) and to which to add a variable text which the user choose.

this is great for TV seasons, as they are consisted from show name, then the word Season and a number. but maybe there are other Properties which can use this.
in any case, it will garrentee the same nameing scheme all over Freebase.
what do you think?
i will also add this, if some1 hasn't already, as a feature request.

This is a much more complicated issue than I had previously thought, on a couple levels. The general question is whether we should model episodes based on production or episode numbers or whether we should model them based on how they were originally broadcast. I'm inclined toward using the latter as a rule of thumb, since it does make intuitive sense. (For Dark Frontier it's muddled a bit in that most sites -- I checked imdb.com, startrek.com, and Wikipedia -- list the director credits differently; i.e., with the two directors directing different halves of the episode [or separate episodes depending on how you count] in various combinations. If it really was filmed in such a way that the two halves were directed by different people, it might argue for it really being two episodes. How to sort that information out, though, I have no idea.) For now, I'm inclined to keep it as a single topic and change the episode count for the season to reflect that. I'd count Equinox 1 and 2 as two episodes, regardless.
With regards to Memory Alpha's data, they use a Creative Commons non-commercial license, which means that Metaweb can't incorporate their data the way we've done with Wikipedia. It is a great data-set, though.

This is not a multi-part episode; it was produced and first aired as one 2-hour (feature-length) episode. Later in syndication, the episode was edited to fit into two one-hour slots and had scenes cut to allow more advertising, and other modifications. This is not how it was intended to be by the producers, and on the DVD release, it is one episode again.
It is the policy over at Memory Alpha to consider it one episode. This is supported by the simple logic that only one article or object will represent it. The 'episode count' property for the season type should equal the number of episodes in the episode list. Currently, for the case of VOY season 5, there will be 25 objects linked in the episode list, but the episode count will say 26. That just seems wrong, considering that it favors the the unpleasant requirements of syndication against the intent of the producers. The "5x15/16" that you see on MA is more of a reference number than an index, the unique production numbers determine whether it is a single episode or multi-part. A more general concern I would have is that it should at least be consistent, if not completely logical. That does not seem to be the case among the seasons represented here.
Also, for true multi-part stories, like season cliff-hangers finished in the next season, those should be regarded as two episodes and have two articles, one representing each part. They are individual productions, and air separately. This is the same for the multiple-episode story arcs of DS9 and ENT, some of them up to nine parts long. So, I would say no to the 24.5 idea. I would equate episodes to individual productions with unique production numbers. The count would always be a whole number.

Actually, this page I entered by hand; it wasn't part of a load from Wikipedia. You bring up a very interesting point. There have been discussions regarding multi-part episodes in Freebase regarding how to type them and count them -- this affects shows like Doctor Who as well and the matter is far from final.
In general, I want to encourage you to feel free to correct data you consider inaccurate. On this issue, though, I'm glad you decided to post a message to start the discussion.
Both Wikipedia and StarTrek.com count each part of the story as a full episode, arriving at 26 for the season. I did consult the Star Trek wiki page you listed just now, and even though they say there are 25 episodes in the season, note that the episode number they gave to Dark Frontier is "5x15/16" -- episodes 15 and 16.
Also, the last episode of each season of Voyager is almost always a split-season cliff hanger resolved in the next season. In season 5, for example, the last episode is Equinox, Part 1. And season 6 starts with Equinox, Part 2. Would you count the last episode of season 5 as half an episode (and making the episode count for the season 24.5)? Some users think so. You see the complexity of this matter. :)
Let me know if you have some ideas about feature-length or multi-part episodes. The advantage of this or any other data community is that mistakes are made, sure, but they're also constantly being corrected. That's where users like yourself come in. Welcome to Freebase!

There are only 25 episodes in season 5. Dark Frontier is split up for syndication, but it was produced, and first aired as one 2-hour episode. It's too bad that all the Star Trek information has been imported from Wikipedia. It should have been imported from Memory Alpha, the specific Star Trek wiki. The Wikipdia information is inconsistent and full of mistakes.

Hi, it would be nice to be able to browse to the previous and the next TV Season without going up the TV Program tree to view all seasons first, then making a selection. May I propose adding those as properties of a TV Season? They would serve as very useful navigational links, in addition to being good information to have. Thanks.
