Alternately, we could add the type "Employer" as an included type, and use that instead, but I'm not sure how accurate that is -- I imagine a lot of political parties don't pay their leadership.

The US politician was created at the same time as the US Political party to limit the scope of parties. It was originally modeled in a more general way.

One question is what properties would be 'factored out' into the more general "Political Party" type? Certainly country, but what else?

Regarding your last question, unless a property has been marked 'unique' Metaweb allows multiple values to exist. Take for example Mayor John Lindsay of New York, who switched from Republican to Democratic in the early 70s:

What's missing from this representation is when he stopped being a republican and started being a democrat. If we wanted to represent that then the simple property would have to become a compound value, which would add a lot of complexity for what's an extreme edge case (as you suggested). But at least we can represent that there were two values.

Political parties are usually, but not always, limited in scope to a single country. Right now you can't even find the US Democratic party because there dozens of different ones in different countries.

Oh wait -- I see that 'US Political Party' is a separate type, as is 'US Politician'. Seems strange to me. If you have specific types like that, shouldn't they inherit from the more general Political Party type?

Also, I notice that Party is a simple property of Politician, which won't handle the cases where politicians change parties. Maybe that is too rare to bother with?
