Once upon a time, this commons was named "Books" (which is still preserved in the key for this commons, which sometimes causes confusion). It was changed to "Publishing" to acknowledge the fact that it also held types for periodicals. This commons has since grown in a lot of ways -- it has a very large number of types, and also now has a huge amount of data relating specifically to books (from the ISFDB and OpenLibrary data loads). In order to be able to highlight the periodicals a bit more, we're going to create a new commons for them (called "Periodicals", naturally), and move the related types over there. Some of the types that are shared by the schemata for books and periodicals (which notable includes both Written Work and Author) will be moved to Media Common, which is the commons for types used by multiple media commons. Finally, "Publishing" will be re-renamed back to "Books". All keys will be kept, so this will be transparent to any existing queries (that is to say, the type Magazine will be addressable by the new key, /periodicals/magazine, as well as its current keys, /book/magazine and /publishing/magazine). Users interested in periodicals should consider joining the new Periodicals commons as well as the Books commons.

The full list of which types will be in which commons can be found in the JIRA task: DA-1035
