  • The Socialist Party is a Trotskyist political party in England and Wales which adopted its current name in 1997. It was formerly best known as the Militant tendency within the Labour Party in the latter half of the last century. It stands under the banner of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition in elections. The Socialist Party argues for a policy of trade union struggle against austerity, claiming members in executive positions in a number of militant trade unions and gives prominent support to the work of Youth Fight for Jobs. The Socialist Party has sister parties in Scotland and Northern Ireland and is a member of the Committee for a Workers' International and the European Anti-Capitalist Left.
