<p>Hermann Bix (10 October 1914 – 31 July 1986) was a highly decorated panzer ace in the Wehrmacht. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.
Hermann Bix was born October 10, 1914 in Strehlitz in the former region of Silesia. He attended vocational school for mechanical engineering and later joined the Wehrmacht in 1935. In October 1941 he was awarded the Iron Cross I Class for single-handedly destroying a Russian motorized battalion near Baturyn. During 1942 he was wounded twice and was awarded the German Cross in Gold.
Bix destroyed 75 tanks in 61 Battle Days, including 16 in a single day. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on March 22, 1945 and before the end of the war he was named a officer cadet. In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr and served until 1970.</p>
