Allen Hobbs was the 32nd Governor of American Samoa from February 8, 1944 to January 27, 1945. Hobbs was born on July 30, 1899 in Lowell, Massachusetts. His mother was a sculptor named Louise Allen Atkins, and his grandfather Charles Herbert Allen, the first American Governor of Puerto Rico. He was an hydrographer with the Naval Hydrographic office in Suitland, Maryland. On March 1, 1953, Hobbs was placed on the Temporary Disability Retirement List. Hobbs ceded the governor position to Ralph Waldo Hungerford on January 27, 1945. On August 30, 1948, Hobbs became the 35th Hydrographer of the United States Navy. He died on November 23, 1960 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
