In the Sacred Band of Stepsons universe, a metaphysical realm is a realm that exists in more than one dimension and may not have its seat in the phenomenal world of men, although it can manifest a presence there or be manifesting a presence there. Such realms exist primarily out of phase with quotidian reality. A metaphysical realm operates under different conditions of time and space than the common worlds, with different boundary conditions, and may inhabit more than one common world simultaneously, but is always subject to change by the power of Mind. The metaphysical realm of the Sacred Band of Stepsons is Heraclitan in nature, and obeys the maxim that Mind steers all things through all things. There are four compass points of the metaphysical realm that sets the boundary conditions of the Sacred Band of Stepsons universe: Meridian, a dark realm which is meant to appear in the common worlds of men only once every thousand years; Bandara, the polar opposite of Meridian, which hides itself from the common worlds but is always present and available to individuals who understand its mystery; the City at the Edge of Time, which can only be reached by certain folk at certain time; and Lemuria, an island in the sea at the edge of time from which all times and places are accessible and where fates can be changed on certain days in certain ways. These four places define the limits of the universe in which the Sacred Band of Stepsons, their gods, and the sorcerers and demons of their underworlds operate. [ - ]
