Rabbit Island Music Festival |
This musical album takes its name from Manana (Rabbit) Island, a Hawaii State bird sanctuary. Gabby Pahinui, his musicians and crew, obtained permission from the Division of Fish and Game, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, to visit the island for photographs and to record live sounds of the birds and their own voices. The title of the album is a joke as there was and never could be under State law a music festival on the island.

Long edit list out of view |
I've been adding content to the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve topic in the Contains property. The list reaches the bottom of my screen and, depending on the number of matches,I'm unable to see the last items or even the option to create a new topic. If I leave the field and try to scroll the entire screen down, the data I enter turns red and I have to erase the last characer or two and reenter it/them in order to generate a new list. This seems to be a fairly serious flaw and it's not one I experienced in the old interface. The screenshot in the gallery will give you an idea of the problem. Notice that the bottom of the list of possible topics is out of view.

/astronomy/meteorite |
A meteorite is a natural object originating in outer space that survives an impact with the Earth's surface without being destroyed. While in space it is called a meteoroid. When it enters the atmosphere, air resistance causes the body to heat up and emit light, thus forming a fireball, also known as a meteor or shooting star. The term bolide
refers to either an extraterrestrial body that collides with the Earth,
or to an exceptionally bright, fireball-like meteor regardless of
whether it ultimately impacts the surface.
Meteorites have been found on the Moon and Mars.
Meteorites that are recovered after being observed as they transited the atmosphere or impacted the Earth are called falls. All other meteorites are known as finds. As of mid-2006, there are approximately 1,050 witnessed falls having specimens in the world's collections. In contrast, there are over 31,000 well-documented meteorite finds.
Meteorites are always named for the place where they were found,
usually a nearby town or geographic feature. In cases where many
meteorites were found in one place, the name may be followed by a
number or letter (e.g., Allan Hills 84001 or Dimmitt (b)).
Meteorites have traditionally been divided into three broad
categories: stony meteorites are rocks, mainly composed of silicate
minerals; iron meteorites
are largely composed ofmetalliciron-nickel;and,stony-iron
meteorites contain large amounts of both metallic and rocky material.
Modern classification schemes divide meteorites into groups according
to their structure, chemical and isotopic composition and mineralogy.Source: Meteorite entry, Wikipedia

/user/digitalarchivist/default_domain/ephemera |
Ephemera is transitory written and printed matter, not
intended to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek,
meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, baseball cards, bookmarks, cigarette cards, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, photographs, postcards, posters, stock certificates, tickets, and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example.
In library and information science,
the term ephemera also describes the class of published single-sheet or
single page documents which are meant to be thrown away after one use.
This classification excludes simple letters and photographs with no
printing on them, which are considered manuscripts or typescripts. Large academic and national libraries and museums may collect, organize, and preserve ephemera as history.Source: "Ephemera," Wikipedia, viewed 2007 10 08 at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephemera

An amateur is a person devoted to one or more of the fine or literary arts and normally engages in pursuit of artistic merit with little or no thought of financial gain. Amateurs are quite often the masters of their craft and may be the equal of a professional or someone making a living in the same field. Depending on the context and who's employing the word, amateur may also have a derogatory and negative meaning.
