A historian is someone who collects and documents data pertaining to events of the past or present time in order to preserve a record of such information for future reference. The events about which information is collected most frequently relates to the activities of humanity as a whole or to specific groups of people identified by a specific geographical area and set, or sets, of customs and of beliefs. The events documented may also be about the natural physical world, as in different periods describing the development and subsequent “ages” of the Earth. Once such data is documented and presented in a comprehensible format such as a book or digital file, it is known as a “history” of the particular subject.
