FGDC Metadata Filter FGDC Metadata topics

*DRAFT* FGDC compliant metadata schema to describe maps and other spatially explicit topics. This is the container schema that includes several others. The included schema are organized in a way that is compatible with (I hope) this graphic.This second tier of schema have properties that are mostly linked to CVTs. However, some are Standard and Enumerated types that link to Freebase topics. The link from those topics is reciprocated and, sometimes, additional properties are added to describe those topics. For example, see Map projection.

To get started adding FGDC compliant metadata into Freebase:

1. Click the “Add more” button;
2. Type in a descriptive name for your dataset. That will be the name used for Freebase searches and lists;
3. Click the button “Add new FGDC Metadata”;
4. Click on your newly named metadata topic that has been added to the list, which will take you to the page you just created;
5. On that new page, click any of the links that say [N] empty fields along the left side of the page, where [N] is a number;
6. Click the “edit” button for the field you want to describe;
7. Start entering metadata.
