The season was best remembered for the famous "Last 16 seconds" of the First Conference championship between U/tex Wranglers and Toyota Tamaraws. The season-ending tourney also marked Crispa's incredible 20-1 record in the All-Filipino Conference, winning their first 19 games in the tournament. Other highlights of the year was the controversial dismissal of Toyota head coach Fort Acuña, and Nicholas Stoodley/USA becoming the first foreign team to win a PBA title.
