Future major leaguers Barry Zito (3rd round, 83rd overall), Mark Teixeira (9th round, 265th overall), J.J. Putz (17th round, 499th overall), Cliff Lee (20th round, 609th overall), Bobby Crosby (34th round, 1021st overall), and Mike Jacobs (48th round, 1412th overall) were also selected during this draft, but did not sign with the teams that selected them. Zito, Putz, and Jacobs were subsequently drafted for the last time in 1999, Lee in 2000, Teixeira and Crosby in 2001, and Braun in 2003.
