The Marlins were the underdogs, and they capped a remarkable season turnaround by defeating the Yankees four games to two. The Marlins become the second straight wild card team to win the World Series; the Anaheim Angels (currently called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) won the World Series as the wild card team the previous year (2002).
