The controversial bill, entitled "Loi pour l'égalité des chances", created a new job contract, the Contrat première embauche (CPE - First Employment Contract or Beginning Workers Contract).
Under this job contract, which aimed to encourage the creation of new jobs, it would have been easier, during a contract's first two years, for workers under twenty-six years old to be fired.
