Shortly after 7:00 AM former President David Palmer, while composing his memoirs, is assassinated in his brother's penthouse suite; almost simultaneously, Michelle Dessler and Tony Almeida are attacked with a car bomb that leaves Michelle dead and Tony in critical condition with head trauma, leading the Counter Terrorist Unit to believe that the couple may have been connected to Palmer. Chloe O'Brian awakes in the arms of a new co-worker from CTU, Spenser Wolff, a situation she immediately regrets and promptly flees.
