Earlier in the year Sinatra had recorded the album Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim with Jobim, and this show offered a rare opportunity to see them both in live performance. Sinatra had featured Fitzgerald on his Timex television shows in the late 1950s, and this show marked their first televisual appearance together since then.
