Abarta was founded in 1963 when John Bitzer Jr, George Roehr, and Don Taylor bought The Press of Atlantic City, and some interest in the Bethlehem and Pittsburgh Coca-Cola bottling franchises, from their father-in-law, Rolland Adams. The name itself was devised from the first letters of the surname of Bitzer, Roehr, and Taylor, and of the repeated maiden name of their spouses.
