In 1974, Griffith starred in Winter Kill, a 1974 television movie that was intended as a series pilot. When it failed to sell, the main character of Sheriff Sam McNeill was renamed and used as the lead character in Adams of Eagle Lake. Despite a strong cast, including veteran TV actress Abby Dalton, the show lasted for only two episodes.
There is some confusion about the airing dates of the two episodes. Several sources give January 10, 1975 and February 26, 1975 as the air dates. Other sources give August 23, 1975 and August 30, 1975 as the dates. It is possible that the earlier dates are the original air dates and the August dates are rebroadcasts.
DVD rights to Adams of Eagle Lake are owned by 20th Century Fox, but no DVD has been released.
