The ʻAkikiki (Oreomystis bairdi) is a critically endangered bird that is found in some parts of Kauaʻi. It was found in many parts of the lowland areas but has been pushed back due to transmission disease. It is a small grey topped white bellied bird that was only four inches long. It was found most commonly in the Alakaʻi Wilderness Preserve. It has also been affected by the two strong hurricanes that came through Kauaʻi in 1980s-1990s. It has been put into a breeding camp where the first egg would hatch in 2000 which would be the starting point of a breeding program.
