Alex was reported to have trialed with Manchester City F.C. in December 2007. On 16 January 2008, Manchester City signed a four-year deal with the 16 year old. Nimely scored 2 goals for Cotonsport Garoua in the CAF Champions League 2007.

On the 12th of May 2008 Alex Tchuimeni rejected the call from Liberian National Senior team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and declared to the press that he chose to play for England, as his father is English. He was called up to the England Under 20 team for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt and scored in the final group game against Uzbekistan.
His father, Davy Tchuimeni, is a former athlete for Dawson College in Canada.
