Amos Fortune, Free Man is a novel by Elizabeth Yates that won the Newbery Medal for excellence in American children's literature in 1951. It is about a young African boy who was supposed to be prince, but when people come and attack his tribe, he is now to be a slave.
The book was made into a 1987 movie.
