The main plot concerns Bobby's infatuation with an older girl named Marie. Marie is a vegetarian who finds Bobby's behavior amusing. He begins to see her as his girlfriend, and she encourages this idea by giving him his first kiss. Later it becomes clear that he has much stronger feelings for her than she does for him. She tells Bobby she does not really have any romantic interest in him, which leaves him crushed. He later sees her eating with her parents at a steakhouse and accepts the restaurant's challenge to eat a 72-ounce steak in under an hour. He simultaneously spites Marie and finds catharsis... less
