Sampson was born in Sydney, Australia. A former professional Rugby Union player with Wests, Sampson studied Medicine, Hotel Management and Spanish. Before choosing a career in the arts, Angus was educated at the Trinity Grammar School in Sydney and The Armidale School (TAS) in northern New South Wales. He is also a trained Copywriter, graduating from the prestigious AWARD School in 2002.
Sampson has had a varied film career, with major roles in films including Darkness Falls, Razor Eaters, Kokoda, and Footy Legends. He played the role of The Bull in Spike Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are, a feature-film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's 1964 picture book of the same name. He was a special guest juror at the prestigious Melbourne International Film Festival during 2006.
