Anthony Gregory Brown (born November 21, 1961) is a Democratic Party politician from the State of Maryland; he is the eighth and current Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. He was elected as Lieutenant Governor in 2006 on a ticket with Governor Martin O'Malley. Both were reelected in 2010. He is the second African American elected to statewide office in Maryland. Brown previously served two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Prince George's County. A 28-year veteran of the United States Army, he is currently a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. In 2008, Brown was the highest-ranking elected official in the nation to have served a tour of duty in Iraq.
Brown was born in 1961 in Huntington, New York to immigrant parents. His father Roy H. Brown, a physician, came to the United States from Kingston, Jamaica to attend Fordham University.
