Asa Butterfield (born 1 April 1997 in Islington, London) is an English child actor best known for his role in the Holocaust film The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008). Recently, Asa has changed his mind and has decided to pursue an acting career. Butterfield has an older brother, Morgan and an older sister, Katherine., and two cats called Leo and Missy. In his spare time he enjoys singing and he can play both the piano and the guitar. He prefers jazz and funk over rock, but despite that he entered the XFM Rock School competition in 2004. He created a remix from the hits "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus and "Making Plans For Nigel" by XTC for which he won a Fender guitar and radio airplay for the song. Butterfield first started acting at the age of 7 on Friday afternoons after school at the Young Actors Theatre in his hometown.
