In early February, 2009, the Autumn Briar Kennel where Atlas Terriers were bred was raided by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Humane Society. Authorities found 30 dead animals and another 50 dogs living in a kennel area described by a Pennyslvania Humane Society Police Officer as “horrendous living conditions" with "feces everywhere and urine." In March, Pennsylvania State Police issued an arrest warrant for kennel owner Laura Antretter (also known as Lauren Wolfe), charging her with more than 100 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and other violations. Antretter, whose kennel license had been revoked in 2008, fled after an initial raid forced her to surrender almost 30 dogs to authorities.
