In Autumn 2002 at Greenville College in Illinois Dan Layus joined friends together to create music. They began by re-recording "More than a Love Song" which Dan had written for his high school girlfriend, back then in California. They wanted to call themselves The Looking Glass but changed their mind after finding another band of the same name. They quickly chose the "Augustana" which Josiah claimed is an African word for monsoon season. It was also the name of Augustana College which frequently traveled to Greenville to compete in sporting events. The original members included Dan Layus, Josiah Rosen, Kyle Baker and Simeon Lohrman. They recorded a full length record, Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays in the home recording studio of Jon King. The debut album was released in Spring 2003 and only 1000 copies...
