This page lists the winners and nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Film since its institution in 1958. The award is presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), an organisation which promotes the Australian film industry. Since the 1958 Australian Film Awards the award is handed out to the film producer every year except for 1961. For a film be eligible for nomination the Australian Film Institute must be satisfied that it is an Australian production and contains siginficant Australian content. Until the 1974-75 Australian Film Awards this category also encompassed non-feature films and documentaries. All reliable sources used in this article make no mention of nominees prior to 1976. In the following lists, the winners are in bold text in blue background while those not in bold are nominees. The years given are those in which the films were released.
