Aviogenex was established in April 1968 and started operations in May 1968. It was founded as the air transport division of company Generalexport, an enterprise for foreign and domestic trade, tourism and air transport. The first flight was made on March 3, 1969 with Tupolev Tu-134 aircraft.
The best year for the company was 1990 when the airline flew 633,932 passengers with ten aircraft (five Boeing 727 and five Boeing 737) reaching 17,000 flight hours per year. Due to UN sanctions, international flight operations were suspended from June 1992 to October 1994. Operations again ceased following the Kosovo conflict, but restarted from November 2000. It is wholly owned by Genex Holding and has 212 employees.
