Awakening of Rip is an 1896 American short black-and-white silent drama film starring Joseph Jefferson. It is based upon the story of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving.
In 1903 it was one of a number of short films to be edited into Rip Van Winkle, an abridged version the story and was later also featured in More Treasures from American Film Archives 1894-1931. In 1995 it was added by the Librarian of Congress to the National Film Registry.
