However, this film with an ambiguous hero did well at the box office. This was Shahrukh Khan's first movie as the sole lead and also Shilpa Shetty's debut film. Khan received much critical acclaim and tremendous popularity as this film shot him into prominence. Baazigar was also Shahrukh Khan's first film in which he played a negative role followed by Darr which was released the same year and Anjaam which was released the following year.
