He started his acting career on stage and in New York TV, with his most notable role in the daytime drama Edge of Night. His first film was the gangster potboiler Pretty Boy Floyd (1960) but he waited years before achieving his breakthrough role in the 1970 movie The Lawyer. This was followed by his most famous role as the character "Kowalski" in the 1971 cult classic film Vanishing Point in which he plays a pill-popping outlaw/hero driving a white 1970 Dodge Challenger.
