Braverman developed an illness in the early 1980s while still starring in Vega$. After a couple of years of intermittent seizures, it was finally diagnosed as epilepsy. He would go for weeks without a seizure and then go several days with multiple seizures several times a day. This condition forced him to quit acting on live television and on stage. (He had been part of a successful improv group called "War Babies.") After Vega$ ended, he cut back on his acting and began writing.
