The Battle of the Bay of Vyborg (Finnish: Viipurinlahden taistelu) was a battle in the Finnish-Soviet Continuation War (1941-1944).
The Battle took place when the Soviet 59th Army attacked across the islands of the Bay of Vyborg from July 4, 1944, on, in an attempt to knock the Finns outof the war. The Soviet attack to the Finnish mainland was thrown back to the sea by the German 122nd Division of the V AK on July 10, 1944. Their superior-range artillery and mortars repressed the main offensive, slowing it effectively.
Although the Finnish troops had abandoned the Finnish city of Vyborg only shortly before - only using delaying tactics -, from here on all the remaining major battles of the Continuation War were to end in decisive Finnish defense victories.
