While explorers first visited present-day Beaver County in the 1776 Dominguez-Escalante Expedition, the county was created by the Utah territorial legislature when Latter-day Saint settlers founded the city of Beaver, Utah in 1856.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,592 square miles (6,714 km²), of which, 2,590 square miles (6,708 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (6 km²) of it (0.09%) is water.
