Bernard is a dentist who meets Rose Henderson (L. Scott Caldwell) after fifty-six years of bachelorhood. He proposes five months later, where Rose reveals that she is sick and has only a year to live. The two marry regardless, and on their honeymoon in Australia, Bernard surprises her by taking her to a faith healer. Rose is upset, as she has already accepted her fate, but agrees to see the man. Afterwards she lies to Bernard that she has been cured. During the flight home, Bernard leaves to use the bathroom, but at this point the plane separates in midair, and the two ends crash at different points on an island.
