Billy was immediately befriended by Hannah Martin and later made acquaintances with Toadfish Rebecchi who introduced him to smoking, shoplifting and joyriding. Billy's first girlfriend, Nicole Cahill, dumped him after Hannah jealously attacked the pair at a parish dance and Billy then moved onto an older woman, falling in love with a friend of his brother's - Packo, who taught him the violin.
