The story originally became popular in the Philippines as a serialized comic strip (Komiks) created by Nerissa Cabral.
The original story was then made into a movie with the same title in 1985 by Viva Films. The movie starred Sharon Cuneta (as Dorina Pineda), Cherie Gil (as Lavinia Arguelles), and Christopher de Leon (as Nico Escobar). The movie was releases on March 16, 1985. It was produced by Vic del Rosario, Jr. and directed by Emmanuel H. Borlaza.
