Polish driver Robert Kubica scored the team its first Grand Prix victory at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.
On 29 July 2009, BMW announced that it would be withdrawing from Formula One at the end of the 2009 season. The team cited "current developments in motorsport" as the reason for their decision.
